Have you thought about being a school governor?

Being a school governor is a hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance to make a real difference to the children of the Wallisdean Federation it will also allow you to develop your skills in a different environment. There is no requirement for you to have an understanding of the education system, just life skills and time to contribute. There is plenty of training available to help you learn about education.

As a governor, you will be able to:

  • use your own experience of education and life beyond school to inform conversations
  • develop and utilise your skills in a board environment
  • make a valuable contribution to the schools and our wider community
  • support and challenge the schools to bring about improvements for our children and staff
  • bring your unique experiences, perspectives and insights in to decision-making in the interests of the schools’ community

What do we do as governors?

The governing board provides strategic leadership and accountability for the Wallisdean Federation. We have three key functions:

  • Overseeing the financial performance of the schools and making sure money is well spent
  • Holding the head teacher to account for the educational performance of the schools and pupils
  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction

We set the aims and objectives for the schools and set the policies and targets for achieving those aims and objectives. We monitor and evaluate the progress the schools are making and act as a source of challenge and support to the head teacher.

Our Governors are committed to our role and to the children and we would really like you to consider joining us please.

If you would like further information about the role please visit: https://www.hants.gov.uk/educationandlearning/governors/volunteer  or  https://www.nga.org.uk/Governance-Recruitment/Be-a-school-governor-or-trustee.aspx

Or Mrs Cammish and I can meet with you or call you  – please call into the School Office or email the school to let us know you are interested.

We do hope that you will give it some consideration.  If we do not have any vacancies but you are still interested in becoming a school governor please contact Hampshire Governor Services and they will endeavour to match you up with another local school.
